Abstract:
In this talk I discuss societal factors that influence how people anticipate what is to happen in their collective future, and the implications of the anticipatory processes for individuals and societies.
Bio:
Qi Wang is Joan K. and Irwin M. Jacobs Professor of Human Development, Psychology, and Cognitive Science at Cornell University. She holds a BSc in Psychology from Peking University and a PhD in Psychology from Harvard University. Her research focuses on the self and mental time travel in the context of culture and technology. Wang frequently publishes in scientific journals and in volumes of collected works. Her single-authored book, The Autobiographical Self in Time and Culture (OUP, 2013), is regarded as the definitive work on culture and autobiographical memory. Her recent edited book (with Andrew Hoskins), The Remaking of Memory in the Age of the Internet and Social Media (OUP, 2024), is recommended as an essential volume on what memory is and where it is headed in the technological era. Wang is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Applied Research in Memory and Cognition.
